Hello Everyone,
During this particular blog post I will be stating a
technology use scenario regarding an individual misusing or correctly utilizing
a technological tool. Thus, following
the scenario a question has been stated; ultimately pertaining to the issue
presented within the realm of the question.
"Kevin has
just purchased the latest video game. Too fast '22. He and his friends enjoy playing games on their
gaming systems. His best friend Vince also likes to play video games, but
doesn't have the money to buy the latest games. Kevin decides to be a good
friend and install a copy of his game on Vince's system. Does sharing games,
music, or movies hurt anyone?"
My Personal Views:
My Personal Views:
Firstly, I truly
believe that this particular utilization of the video game system is not being
used to its intended purpose. In particular, it is apparent that Kevin is
unaware that the action of copying games, music, or movies is illegal and a
true violation of the creator’s privacy and intellectual property. Moreover,
this particular notion has been previously mentioned by Michelle Langill’s blog post in which stresses the fact that copyright of any nature is truly an “illicit
behavior”. The notion that Kevin was simply just trying to help out a good
friend does not justify performing an illegal act due to the fact that he is
robbing the creator of not only credit, but potential profits for the game
itself.
Solution:
On a personal level,
the only possible solution that could solve this particular problem would be to
find a way to legally purchase the video game from a store or online.
Furthermore, effectively saving up enough money to purchase the video game allows
for the creator to receive the deserved credit and profits in which are
evidently deserved.
How do you feel
about this particular topic? Is the notion of copying games, videos, and music
seriously harmful to anyone at all? Have your say!

Hi Cole,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, your formatting choice for this post is great! I like the use of headings and subheadings to organize it in a clear and reader friendly way. I like the way that you included a solution for the problem that Kevin got himself into. I agree that it is not right for Kevin to do this and he needs to be educated on the repercussions of his actions. I believe that Kevin would not steal this video game from a store and does not realize what he did is the exact same thing.
Great post!
Emma
Cole,
ReplyDeleteI like your solution to the problem addressed in this scenario. I think that a way that Kevin or Vince can address this problem is sort of dependent on their age. Perhaps they can use a credit card to purchase the game and pay it off later when they have the money?
Or as a family member to use their credit card and they will pay him/her back?
Great post,
Cheers, Karlee

ReplyDeleteHey Cole
ReplyDeleteI agree with your view that just because he is trying to help out a friend does not justify breaking the law. Despite his good intentions, along with you I feel there are better solutions to the problem. I agree with your solutions and I suggest Kevin just lend the game to Vince once he is done playing with it. It would result in him not even having to spend money! What do you think?
