Hello all!
I am back for the second blog post of the week! If
you have not already had a chance to take a look at my prior blog post, be sure
to do so as it contains a link to helpful advice within and outside of the academic
realm!
Let us get this particular blog post underway shall
we? This week I had the opportunity to learn about a website called feedly. This particular website allows individuals to
keep up-to-date with various pieces news and blogs in which may peak their own
views or interests. In comparison, feedly offers
similar attributes to what Facebook offers the everyday consumer. Thus, this
particular website permits for individuals to obtain popular news and updates
from preferred bloggers that they have subscribed to.
Item
of Interest:
While completing this week’s assigned learning
activities in the ADED 1P32 course, I was able to pick out one item of interest
from the Telegraph, which pertained to the
January transfer window within the Barclays Premier League (BPL) or as some refer to
it, the English Premier League (EPL). In particular, I chose a post that pertained to
Newcastle United and their probable notion of switching targets during the
January transfer window. Now at this point, some readers are probably wondering
why I chose this particular posting and does this ultimately inform my own
learning; I will get to that right now! This particular posting was chosen
because I feel as though I am able to see it for more than a quick news story
on soccer and identify the article for what it truly is. What can be identified
in this particular article you may ask? The notion of a player’s sale value,
the importance of bulking a team’s squad both in quality, and finding signings
that will allow these clubs to achieve goals; particularly staying within the
Premier League would be Newcastle United’s ultimate goal this season.
Moreover, I believe a post such as this allowed for
an individual like me to develop my reading and comprehension skills, while
notably seeing a variance in culture between how soccer is viewed in North
America compared to the United Kingdom. Thus, I believe I have been able to
become a more informed individual, while obtaining the notion on how article
such as this should be written in order to grasp the interest of readers.
RSS
Feed Readers – The Positives!
While looking through various blog posts, I found
that RSS Feed Readers truly provide a positive contribute to my ability in
building knowledge about various aspects (i.e., Digital literacy,
responsibility, citizenship, etc.). In particular, I was able to see how
various writers outline and display their work in order to obtain interest and
understanding from the general public. Moreover, acquiring the ability to
understand the effective format in which articles are written has allowed for
me to communicate this information, requiring me to use both my cognitive and technical
skills.
Reflection
– My Final Thoughts!
Reflecting
on the connection to my PLE Diagram:
I have found that these particular tools best relate
to the notions of organizational content, digital literacy, and socializing/collaborating.
Categorizing these particular tools within the confines of my personal learning
environment (PLE) to a further extent, I would place them under the means of
note taking (i.e., Writing down points to discuss in an article), evaluating
resources (i.e., Locating credible sources), and communication (i.e., Utilizing
avenues of email, texting, and social media outlets to absorb information and
share such information to the general public). Moreover, these particular types
of tools would allow for me to further my knowledge within my own field of
study (Sport Management); ultimately providing future opportunity to grasp a
greater understanding of such processes.
